Retry Failed Invoice is designed to automate the recovery of lost revenue by systematically re-attempting charges on invoices that were initially declined. This feature reduces manual collections effort and ensures your subscriptions and accounts receivable remain up to date.
When a payment fails—whether due to insufficient funds, expired cards, or temporary bank flags—PayPack can be configured to automatically retry the payment method on file or allow for manual intervention.
The retry logic is built to work seamlessly with both Recurring Billing and Authorize & Capture, ensuring that a single failure doesn’t stop your cash flow.
The retry process typically follows a two-step lifecycle.
Failure Identification
When a scheduled or manual charge is declined, PayPack updates the transaction logs in NetSuite.
The specific reason for the failure (e.g., "Generic Decline" or "Insufficient Funds") is captured in the PayPack Charge Logs for easy troubleshooting.
Automated Retry Logic
If you have automated retries enabled via your PayPack Configuration:
Scheduled Retries: PayPack will wait for a pre-determined interval (e.g., 3 days) before attempting the charge again.
Frequency: You can define how many times PayPack should attempt to "Retry" before the invoice is officially marked as "Uncollectible."
Dynamic Updates: If a customer updates their default payment method via the Stripe Customer Portal, the next retry attempt will automatically use the new payment method.
Key Benefits
Reduce Churn: Automatically fix payment issues without requiring customer service interaction.
Audit Trail: Every retry attempt is logged in NetSuite, providing a full history of the collection attempts for your finance team.
Customizable Intervals: Set your retry schedule to align with your business's collection policy.
Best Practices
Review Charge Logs: Regularly check the PayPack Charge Logs section to identify patterns in failures (e.g., high volume of expired cards).
Customer Communication: Pair the Retry feature with NetSuite Email Notifications to alert customers when a payment fails, giving them a link to update their payment method before the next retry occurs.
Cooldown Periods: Avoid retrying a failed card multiple times in the same 24-hour period, as this can lead to "Suspected Fraud" flags from the issuing bank.
