Overview
This guide explains how PayPack handles transactions where the tax code is set at the transaction header rather than on each line. This is a less common NetSuite configuration in which a single tax code/item and rate on the header applies to the whole transaction. When Stripe Tax is enabled, PayPack reads the header-level tax code, and if it’s “PayPack” calculates tax through Stripe, and returns the result to the record.
How Header-Level Tax Works
- Items Sent to Stripe: PayPack sends only the transaction's items to the Stripe Tax API, along with the ship-to address, so Stripe can determine the applicable tax.
- Header Tax Rate Populated: PayPack takes the tax result from Stripe and populates the header-level tax rate on the transaction. NetSuite then uses this tax rate to calculate the tax total in the summary
- No Line-Level Changes: PayPack does not change anything on the line items in NetSuite. Tax is reflected only at the header.
This logic applies to Legacy Tax.
